The major themes will be covered by the conference keynote speakers: Antonio Di Pietro, Italian Minister for Public Works, Larry Irving, Assistant Secretary of Commerce of the United States, and Magnus Lemmel, Deputy Director General responsible for Industry at the Euoropean Commission, A highlight of the conference will be a series of reports on the progress of IDA projects already underway, including EURES, the European on-line job-search network; FIDES, a service that allows exchange of fisheries information (catch quotas, movements and customs) between Fisheries Ministries across Europe; CARE and REITOX for the information exchange on drugs and communicable diseases; and a number of information exchange networks in areas such as social security, tax and VAT, all of which are aimed at creating pan-European services for the European citizens of tomorrow.
