30. se félicite, à cet égard, du nouveau climat, plus positif, instauré entre les gouvernements de l'ancienne République yougoslave de Macédoine et de la Grèce à la suite des récentes élections en Grèce, et en particulier les réunions récentes entre les deux premiers ministres; encourage les deux pays à redoubler d'efforts au plus haut niveau, en particulier dans le cadre des négociations des Nations unies, afin de trouver une solution mutuellement satisfaisante sur la question de l'appellation, sous l'égide des Nations unies, et souligne que l'Union européenne devrait être disposée à assister au processus de négociation; fait part de sa préoccupation devant l'utilisation d'arguments historiques dans le débat actuel, à commencer par le phénomène récent d''antiquisation", qui risque d'accroître les tensions avec les pays voisins et de créer de nouvelles divisions internes;
30. Welcomes, to this end, the new, more positive climate between the governments of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Greece following the recent elections in Greece and, in particular, the recent meetings between the two prime ministers; encourages the two countries to redouble their efforts at the highest level, especially in the framework of UN negotiations, in order to find a mutually satisfactory solution to the name issue, under the auspices of the UN, and stresses that the European Union should be ready to assist in the negotiation process; notes with concern the use of historical arguments in the current debate, including the recent phenomenon of so-called "antiquisation", which is liable to increase tensions with neighbours and create new internal divisions;

4. Holds the Russian Government responsible for the humanitarian disaster and the plight of hundreds of thousands of displaced persons in Chechnya and the neighbouring republics; calls therefore on the Russian Government to allow international humanitarian agencies to provide direct assistance to the victims of the Chechen war;

- Monsieur le Président, ce sont évidemment les peuples de la République du Congo qui ont le plus à souffrir des conflits entre bandes armées qui déchirent leur pays, mais il est aussi dérisoire que mensonger de présenter ces conflits comme si la seule responsabilité en cause était celle des parties congolaises adverses et de leurs protecteurs des États africains voisins et comme si un appel de l'Europe à la réconciliation nationale et à la démocratisation pouvait les résoudre.
– (FR) Mr President, obviously the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo are those who suffer most in the conflicts between armed gangs which are tearing the country apart, but it is both pathetic and misleading to present these conflicts as if the only people to bear any responsibility were the opposing Congolese factions and their protectors in neighbouring African states and as if Europe’s calling for national reconciliation and democratisation could resolve the situation.

The EU once again reiterates its support for the principle of territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Democratic Republic of Congo and its neighbouring countries and calls for a cessation of external interference in the DRC.
