Si, par une mesure exceptionnelle – comme c’est le cas aujourd’hui puisque, je m’en excuse auprès de M Serracchiani, nous parlons d’un pays plutôt que de l’Europe -nous cherchons vraiment à déterminer quel est l’état de la démocratie en Italie, demandons au président de la République, Giorgio Napolitano, avec tout le respect dû à une institution, s’il a le sentiment d’être à la tête d’un pays qui foule aux pieds le principe de pluralisme de l’information, un pays où les libertés sont en chute libre et d’où se retire la vague démocratique.
If we really do want, as an exceptional measure – such as the one, I apologise to Mrs Serracchiani, used in this case, namely that of discussing one country and not Europe – to ascertain the truth about the health of democracy within our country, then we should ask the President of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, respectfully as an institution, whether he feels that he is the President of a country in which pluralism of information is floundering, freedom is in a tailspin and the tide of democracy is going out.
