Underlines that a peaceful and just settlement of the Middle East conflict is vital, and welcomes the fact that it will represent one of the most urgent priorities of the new US administration; asks the US administration to coordinate closely with the EU and engage in the Quartet; welcomes the early appointment of a US special envoy for the Middle East in the person of the former Senator George Mitchell; emphasises that both partners should strive for intensification of the negotiations based on the road map and the Annapolis Conference achievements, with the objective of a two-state solution; urges both partners to work closely together in order to help make the current fragile ceasefire in Gaza solid and durable, while involving the regional actors and contributing to the achievement of the goals of UN Security Council Resolution 1860 of 8 January 2009 (S/RES/1860(2009)), such as an immediate humanitarian relief for the population of Gaza and the assurance that illicit trafficking in arms and ammunition is prevented and the blockade of Gaza is lifted; calls on the transatlantic partners to support efforts for inter-Palestinian reconciliation, and points out the importance of improving the living conditions of Palestinians in both the West Bank and Gaza, including the reconstruction of Gaza;

Pour continuer avec les éléments positifs, j’apprécie également grandement le fait que, dans son livre vert, la direction générale de la santé et de la protection des consommateurs a également insisté résolument sur la question des modes alternatifs de règlement des litiges, à l’inverse du livre blanc de la direction générale de la concurrence, qui a également fait l’objet d’un débat dans cette Assemblée hier et qui a jusqu’à maintenant complètement ignoré la possibilité des modèles de résolution extrajudiciaire des litiges.
Staying with the positives, I also very much welcome the fact that, in its Green Paper, the Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection has also placed a definite emphasis on the issue of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. That is very different to the White Paper from the Directorate General for Competition, which was also debated in this House yesterday and which has so far completely ignored the possibility of out-of-court dispute resolution mechanisms.

- (EN) Monsieur le Président, à la lumière d’une déclaration faite hier soir dans cette Assemblée par la Commission, au cours du débat en plénière sur la réglementation applicable à certains gaz fluorés, déclaration dont le texte n’a pas été introduit au cours de la conciliation et qui compromet l’esprit de l’accord de conciliation et fait preuve d’un manque considérable de respect et de considération pour la volonté clairement exprimée par le Parlement et le Conseil, je voudrais demander l’ajournement du vote sur les deux rapports concernant les gaz fluorés, au moins jusqu’à demain.
– Mr President, in the light of a declaration put on the record of this House last night by the Commission, during the plenary debate on the regulation on certain fluorinated gases, the text of which was not introduced during conciliation, and which compromises the spirit of the conciliation agreement and shows great disrespect and disregard for the clear will of Parliament and the Council, I should like to request a postponement of the vote on the two reports on fluorinated gases, at least until tomorrow.
