Considering that VIA Rail service cuts in northern New Brunswick would pose real hardship on many residents for their personal transportation as well as a lot of the local economy and commerce in the community, the petitioners implore the Government of Canada to undertake all measures to reinstate daily round-trip VIA Rail passenger service between Montreal and Halifax through the cities of Campbellton, Bathurst, and Miramichi, New Brunswick.

La directive relative au statut des ressortissants de pays tiers résidents de longue durée offre déjà d’intéressantes possibilités, comme celle pour les États membres d’autoriser les candidats au retour à conserver ce statut pour une durée supérieure à la durée d’un an prévue à l’article 9. Des études de faisabilité sont prévues au sujet d’éventuelles nouvelles mesures, à savoir des visas à long terme et à entrées multiples pour les candidats au retour, ou la possibilité pour les anciens immigrants d’être prioritaires et d’obtenir, selon une procédure simplifiée, un nouveau permis de séjour en vue d’un nouvel emploi temporaire dans leur ancien pays d'accueil.
The Directive on the status of long-term residents already offers interesting possibilities, such as the possibility for Member States to allow returning migrants to retain this status for longer than the one year period provided for in Art. 9. Feasibility studies are foreseen on possible new measures, i.e. long-term multi-entry visas for returning migrants or the possibility for former migrants to be given priority and obtain a new residence permit for further temporary employment in the former host country under a simplified procedure.

(4) In light of the Commission proposals establishing the Fund for the Integration of legally staying third country nationals, the Fund for the return of illegally staying third country nationals (hereafter ‘Return Fund’) and the external borders Fund for the period 2007-2013, as part of the general programme ‘Solidarity and Management of Migration Flows’, in particular in view of setting out common management, control and evaluation arrangements, a new European Refugee Fund should be established.

Il importerait de disposer d'une preuve satisfaisante de sortie du territoire, en particulier dans les cas de retour volontaire, afin de garantir un retour durable et de pouvoir accorder un traitement préférentiel aux personnes qui ont regagné volontairement leur pays, c'est-à-dire d'éviter que, dans ces cas de figure, il soit interdit à ces personnes d'entrer à nouveau régulièrement sur le territoire de l'Union parce que la preuve de leur retour volontaire antérieur fait défaut.
A satisfactory proof of exit seems important, in particular in cases of voluntary return to ensure sustainable return and to allow giving preferential treatment to voluntary returnees, namely to avoid that in these cases persons are being banned from a later legal re-entry due to a lack of proof of their previous voluntary exit.
