Je suis convaincu que le député sait cela.
Mr. Speaker, I think what was alluded to earlier about putting it to committee quickly is a rather disingenuous argument, because what they are saying is to put it to committee before we have a vote at second reading and before we accept it in principle.

Je tiens à prendre la parole en faveur de cette motion, car j'estime, après l'excellente intervention du leader de l'opposition ici au Sénat, que beaucoup de questions demeurent sans réponse et, bien que certains diront peut-être qu'il serait hautement préférable que les délibérations se déroulent devant un juge et sous serment, compte tenu de l'ampleur du problème auquel nous sommes confrontés, toute mesure permettant aux sénateurs de pouvoir s'exprimer avant d'être renvoyés est bonne et je l'appuie.
I want to speak in support of this motion because I believe, after the excellent speech we heard from the Leader of the Opposition here in the Senate, that there are a lot of questions that need answers. And while some might argue that having the proceedings before a judge and under oath might be absolutely preferable, given the size of the issue we're dealing with, any move towards allowing senators to have their say before they're shipped off I think is a great move and I support it.
