Il reste à voir si la population pourrait être informée à temps de toutes les possibilités et de tous les avantages et écueils d'un tel système (1230) Mme Libby Davies (Vancouver-Est, NPD): Monsieur le Président, je sais gré au député du Parti progressiste-conservateur de ses commentaires, mais je trouve regrettable qu'il laisse entendre que les députés conservateurs n'appuieront pas la motion parce qu'ils n'acceptent pas l'idée qu'un référendum puisse être tenu d'ici un an ou l'idée d'un référendum à l'extérieur d'une élection.
It is debatable that the population can be informed in time of all the options, benefits and pitfalls of such a system (1230) Ms. Libby Davies (Vancouver East, NDP): Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank the hon. member from the Conservative Party for his comments, but I think it is regrettable that he seems to be suggesting that Conservative members will not be supporting the motion because somehow they cannot agree that a referendum should be held within a year or that it should be held separate from an election.
