In June of 1953, I gathered at a local school and watched the coronation, and of course it was the first time in my life that I had ever watched television, the result of which is that my sisters, brother and I bugged our father until he bought us a TV and then we sat and watched one channel, English and French on both channels, but mostly the test pattern.
