The European Parliament president, Mr José María Gil-Robles, was attending the Parliament's own plenary session discussing the very important issue of members' status, but nevertheless sent the following letter to the ESC president, Mrs Rangoni Machiavelli: "When the Amsterdam Treaty enters into force, the Parliament will be able to consult the ESC, thus formally reinforcing the long-established dialogue between Parliament and ESC rapporteurs on many subjects for which it may be useful to hear the views of socio-occupational groups.
