I would like to thank the Rapporteur, Mircea Diaconu, and the shadow rapporteurs; Silvia Costa leading the Parliament's negotiating team, and the Maltese Presidency of the Council for their invaluable work on this initiative.

Il y a eu une excellente collaboration entre les rapporteurs fictifs dirigeant le vote en commission, et nous nous sommes mis d’accord sur de nombreux amendements de compromis qui, s’ils n’ont pas été aussi loin que nous l’aurions voulu, ont fait avancer la proposition de telle manière que le groupe des Verts/ALE a retiré son amendement rejetant carrément la proposition de la Commission.
We had very good cooperation between the shadow rapporteurs leading up to the committee vote and we agreed on many compromise amendments and although it did not go as far as we wanted, it moved the proposal ahead to such an extent that the Verts/ALE Group withdrew our amendment rejecting the Commission proposal outright.

- (IT) Monsieur le Président, Monsieur le Commissaire, je remercie avant tout la présidente Caroline Jackson pour le traitement préférentiel qu'elle a réservé à ce rapport ; je remercie tout aussi vivement les rapporteurs fictifs, avec lesquels il y a eu un excellent rapport de collaboration, ainsi que les dirigeants de la Commission, les représentants des diverses associations et tous les collègues qui, par des amendements de qualité, ont contribué à améliorer cette directive importante et délicate.
