Notre continent est certes défiguré actuellement par les horreurs de la guerre qui se déroule dans l'ancienne Yougoslavie mais, après le palmarès épouvantable de la première moitié du siècle, la Communauté européenne proprement dite jouit d'une paix ininterrompue depuis 36 ans et connaît des résultats enviables de croissance économique.
Certainly our continent is currently disfigured by the horrors of war in the former Yugoslavia. But following the appalling record of the first half of this century the European Community itself has for 36 years now enjoyed unbroken peace and an enviable record of economic growth.
