Question No. 479 Mr. Peter Stoffer: With regard to the Lobster Marketing Initiative from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency: (a) is the project still active and how much funding has been or will be spent during the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 fiscal years; (b) how many fishermen have received funding or benefited directly from this Initiative; (c) did the program help to increase the export of Atlantic fishing products to Asian markets and, if so, how did it do this and what is its estimated impact; and (d) distributed by province, how many applications were made under the Initiative and how many of these were approved?

Keith Ashfield (ministre du Revenu national, ministre de l'Agence de promotion économique du Canada atlantique et ministre de la porte d'entrée de l'Atlantique, PCC): Monsieur le Président, en ce qui a trait à l’Agence de promotion économique du Canada atlantique, APECA, concernant l’Initiative de marketing du homard administrée par l’Agence en vertu du Fonds d’adaptation des collectivités, FAC, en réponse à la question a), cette initiative fonctionne toujours.

Keith Ashfield (Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, CPC): Mr. Speaker, insofar as the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, ACOA, is concerned, with regard to the lobster marketing initiative delivered by the agency under the community adjustment fund, CAF, in response to (a), the initiative is still active.

(Return tabled) Question No. 92 Mr. Scott Andrews: With regard to the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and, more specifically, the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Program administered by ACOA in Atlantic Canada: (a) what was the allocation of funding available for projects under RInC for the time period between January 27, 2009 and March 31, 2010 in Atlantic Canada; (b) how much of this allocated funding has been committed as of March 3, 2010; (c) how much of the allocated funding has actually been expended to the applicants as of March 3, 2010; (d) what were the names, addresses and submission dates of the applicants submitting an application between January 27, 2009 and March 3, 2010 from the constituency of Avalon, (i) how much funding did each applicant apply for, (ii) how much funding was approved, (iii) what percentage of the overall project was funded through RInC; and (e) what is the allocation of funding for RInC in Atlantic Canada for fiscal year 2010-2011?

Concernant l'annonce faite par le ministère des Pêches et des Océans le 19 juin 1998, d'un programme de 100 milions de dollars visant à protéger et à rétablir l'habitat du saumon sur la côte ouest du Canada, existe-t-il dans le Canada atlantique un programme semblable comportant les quatre mêmes volets: (1) créer un fonds permanent pour des projets touchant l'habitat, (2) mettre sur pied des programmes de saine gestion communautaire visant à protéger l'habitat contre tout autre dommage éventuel, (3) élargir les programmes de remise en état et de partenariat communautaires et enfin (4) sensibiliser davantage la population aux problèmens liés aux stocks de saumon; si oui, combien dépense-t-on dans le Canada atlantique pour ce genre de programme?
With regards to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans announcements on June 19, 1998, of a $100 milion program for measures to protect and rebuild salmon fish habitat on Canada's west coast is there a similar program available in Atlantic Canada that has the same four components of (1) establishing a permanent fund for habitat initiatives, (2) developing community based stewardship programs aimed at protecting habitat from further damage, (3) extending community restoration and partnership programs, and finally, (4) increasing public awareness of the problems affecting salmon stocks and, if so, how much money is spent in Atlantic Canada on this type of program?
