The Commission therefore made use of the following sources of information: the data provided by some US biodiesel producers at initiation stage in reply to the questionnaire for the purpose of the sampling, Eurostat, the request for an expiry review, subsequent submissions from the applicant, the US National Biodiesel Board (NBB), the websites of the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) and the US Department of Energy, and the US International Trade Commission.

Question No. 39 Mr. Francis Scarpaleggia: With regard to water bottled and sold in Canada: (a) how does the government ensure the quality and safety of this food product; (b) does the government regularly send federal inspectors into all water-bottling plants to test bottling processes and product samples and, if so, how many times per year do inspectors visit a given bottling plant and how many inspectors are currently available for plant inspections; (c) how many inspectors were available in February 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, respectively; (d) is a water bottling company required to report to the government the contamination of its product detected by internal testing procedures; (e) is the company required to inform the public and conduct a product recall; (f) how are quality standards for bottled water set in Canada; (g) are standards simply imported from other countries, such as the United States, or are standards developed in Canada for the Canadian market; and (h) what is the relationship between federal bottled-water quality standards and municipal drinking-water standards in Canada?

Parmi les développements intervenus dans la mise en oeuvre des réformes internes, on note : * l'adoption, en mai dernier, d'une communication définissant une stratégie visant à améliorer les travaux d'évaluation au sein des services de la Commission, et notamment la création d'unités responsables en la matière dans toutes les directions générales, la mise sur pied d'un réseau d'évaluateurs, un plan annuel d'évaluation et un examen annuel de l'état d'avancement; * l'adoption, en octobre dernier, d'une communication sur la généralisation des procédures d'étanchéité à la fraude pour toutes les propositions législatives examinées au sein de la Commission; * l'adoption, en novembre, d'une communication sur la modification du rôle du contrôle financier qui, à l'avenir, effectuera de plus en plus ses contrôles ex ante sur la base de l'échantillonnage, libérant ainsi des ressources qui lui permettront d'améliorer sa fonction d'audit interne.
Recent developments in implementing internal reforms include: * the adoption of a Communication in May setting out a strategy for improving evaluation work within the Commission services, including the creation of evaluation units in all DGs, the establishment of a network of evaluators, on annual evaluation plan and an annual review of progress; * the adoption of a Communication in October on generalising fraud proofing procedures for all legislative proposals under consideration within the Commission; * the adoption of a Communication in November on the changing role of Financial Control which will in future increasingly perform its ex ante controls on the basis of sampling thus releasing resources to enhance its internal audit function.
