Au nom des 26 Premières nations Keewatinowi Okimakanak du Manitoba et à l'appui de la Première nation Sayisi Déné et la Première nation Northlands, je me présente devant le comité sénatorial permanent des affaires juridiques et constitutionnelles pour vous dire que le gouvernement du Canada essaye de faire disparaître les droits autochtones et les droits découlant des traités de la Première nation Sayisi Déné et de la Première nation Northlands au nord du 60e parallèle pour paver la voie à l'accord sur le Nunavut et au projet de gouvernement du Nunavut.
On behalf of the 26 Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak First Nations, and in support of the Sayisi Dene Nation and the Northlands First Nation, I have come before the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs to inform you that the Government of Canada is attempting to extinguish the aboriginal and treaty rights of the Sayisi Dene Nation and the Northlands First Nation north of the 60th parallel in order to pave the way for the Nunavut Settlement Agreement and the proposed Government of Nunavut.

It is also the position of the minister that any recognition by the minister and her government of the section 35 rights of the Sayisi Dene Nation and the Northlands First Nation north of 60 will depend on the outcome of the Samuel v. The Queen case which is currently before the Federal Court of Canada.
