En ce qui concerne la commission et mon groupe, la question consiste à savoir ce qui peut être fait, premièrement, pour assurer que nous sommes vraiment utiles dans la recherche d’un résultat positif à Hong Kong - même s’il n’y aura pas de conclusions finales, un tel résultat serait réjouissant -, de sorte que les négociations puissent se poursuivre sur de bonnes bases; deuxièmement, pour garantir que la grande revendication que nous avançons dans le titre «cycle de développement» est justifiée par la réalité; troisièmement, pour assurer que les intérêts de l’Union européenne sont défendus.
As far as both the Committee and my group are concerned, the question to which it gives rise is what can be done, firstly to ensure that we are actually being helpful, in a supportive way, in bringing about a positive result in Hong Kong – even though there will be no final conclusion, a positive result would be nice in any case – so that negotiations can then be continued on a sound footing; secondly, also in order to ensure that the great claim we make in the title of ‘development round’ is justified by reality; and, thirdly, to ensure that the European Union’s interests are defended.
