Ayant appris avec stupéfaction et douleur les deux récents attentats en Espagne qui ont coûté la vie de deux serviteurs du bien public, un conseiller municipal de l'Union du peuple de navarre et un sous-commissaire de la police autonome basque, le Conseil et la Commission veulent exprimer leur plus profonde solidarité avec le peuple et les autorités espagnoles, ainsi que très spécialement avec les victimes et leurs familles.
The Council and the Commission were shocked and saddened to learn of the two recent attacks in Spain which cost the lives of two public servants, a local councillor from the Union of Navarrese People and a deputy superintendent with the autonomous Basque police, and would like to express their deepest sympathy with the Spanish people and the Spanish authorities and particularly with the victims and their families.

- (ES) Madame la Présidente, je souhaite prendre la parole pour détailler les déclarations que vous avez faites au début de cette séance, pour signaler que la dernière victime mortelle de la barbarie de l’ETA, M. Iñaki Totorika, membre de la police autonome basque, appartenait au Parti nationaliste basque, qui est la force politique majoritaire au Pays basque.
– (ES) Madam President, I wanted to take the floor in order to expand on your comments at the beginning of the sitting, and to point out that the latest fatal victim of ETA’s barbarity, the Basque policeman Iñaki Totorika, belonged to the Basque Nationalist Party, the majority political force in the Basque Country.

- (ES) Madame la Présidente, en ma double qualité de membre du groupe des Verts/Alliance libre européenne et de député européen du parti nationaliste basque, je tiens tout d'abord à condamner fermement l'attentat lâche qui a coûté la vie à deux personnes, au membre de la police autonome basque Jorge Díez Elorza et au député basque et ex-vicelehendakari Fernando Buesa.
– (ES) Madam President, as a member of the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance and also as an MEP for the Basque Nationalist Party, I must firstly categorically condemn the cowardly attack which took the lives of a Basque police officer, Jorge Díez Elorza, and the Basque MP and former vice-president, Fernando Buesa.

In the streets of Madrid it has killed a general, Quintana Lacaci, who defended democracy at the time of the attempted coup of 1981. It has assassinated the spokesman of the Popular Party in the town council of San Sebastián, Gregorio Ordóñez. It has been to the lecture room of the university professor in Constitutional Law, Francisco Tomás y Valiente, and killed him in cold blood. Now, just a few days ago, in the same odious way in which it assassinated Admiral Blanco, it has killed the socialist MP and spokesman in the Vitoria parliament, Fernando Buesa, and his bodyguard, Jorge Díez, of the Basque police force.
