L'article premier du statut d'autonomie du Pays basque (loi organique 3/1979) est textuellement le suivant: "Le peuple basque ou Euskal Herria, en tant qu'expression de sa nationalité et pour parvenir à l'autonomie, se constitue en communauté autonome au sein de l'État espagnol sous la dénomination d'Euskadi ou Pays basque, conformément à la Constitution et au présent statut, qui constitue sa loi institutionnelle fondamentale".
Article 1 of the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country (Organic Law 3/1979) states: 'The Basque people, or Euskal Herria, as an expression of its nationality and in order to attain self-government, constitutes itself as an autonomous community within the Spanish state under the name of Euskadi or the Basque Country, in accordance with the Constitution and with the present Statute, which is its fundamental law'.
