C’est un projet historique, qui exigera de la patience stratégique et du réalisme des deux côtés, et ce réalisme impliquera de se faire une idée de ce qui est faisable et de travailler à engranger les triomphes, pas après pas, ce qui - dans ce domaine comme dans tant d’autres - n’ira pas sans problèmes. Et pourtant, ni l’Union européenne ni la Russie n’ont d’alternative réaliste à cette voie de la coopération et du partenariat, et il relève donc de notre responsabilité commune, en tant qu’Européens, d’agir précisément dans ce sens.
This is an historic project, and one that will call for strategic patience and realism on both sides, and this realism will involve gaining an insight into what is feasible and working at chalking up triumphs step by step, which – in this area as in many others – will not be without its problems, yet neither the European Union nor Russia have any realistic alternative to going down this road of cooperation and partnership, and so it is a matter of our shared responsibility as Europeans that we should do just that.
