J’ai été surpris d’apprendre que Mme Honeyball, une députée européenne du Parti travailliste britannique, invitait la Commission à présenter une directive sur les taxes routières annuelles au sein de l’Union européenne et sur le cadre général de l’imposition frappant l’acquisition des véhicules à moteur en invoquant la réalisation du marché unique, alors que le ministre britannique des finances affirme à la une des journaux: "Nous devons explicitement rejeter l’idée erronée selon laquelle un marché unique doit inexorablement entraîner une harmonisation fiscale, un fédéralisme fiscal, puis un État fédéral".
I was surprised to discover that Mrs Honeyball, an MEP for the UK Labour Party, is calling for a Commission directive on annual road taxes in the European Union, and on the structure of car purchase tax on the grounds of completing the single market, when the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer is quoted on the front page of today's newspapers as saying 'We must explicitly reject old flawed assumptions that a single market should lead inexorably to tax harmonisation, fiscal federalism and then a federal state'.
