Le rapport de la Commission au Parlement européen et au Conseil sur l'application de la directive 2003/86/CE relative au droit au regroupement familial, en date du 8 octobre 2008, était le résultat de cet exercice et annonçait l'intention de la Commission de lancer une consultation plus large sous forme de livre vert sur l'avenir du régime de regroupement familial.
