Notes that Taiwan eased restrictions on direct investment in the PRC in November 2001 and plans to take further liberalisation steps from early 2002, including the introduction of direct trading links; notes, however, that Beijing has yet to respond to the move; urges the PRC to respond favourably, particularly in view of the accession of both China and 'Chinese Taipei' to the WTO and in the interests of improving cross-Straits relations;

The EU takes part actively in meetings on reconstruction and development of Afghanistan, specifically in the Senior Officials meeting on reconstruction assistance to Afghanistan (Washington, 20 November 2001), the conference "preparing for the reconstruction of Afghanistan" co-hosted by the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program and the Asian Development Bank (Islamabad, Pakistan, 27-29 November 2001), the meeting of the Afghanistan Support Group (Berlin 6 December 2001).
