Recalls the high potential of sources of renewable energy – in particular wind and solar energy – in the Euro-Mediterranean region; supports the swift, coordinated implementation of the Mediterranean Solar Plan, the main aim of which is to establish, by 2020, 20 GW of new renewable energy production capacity in the Mediterranean, and industrial initiatives such as DESERTEC, in addition to the adoption of a Euro-Mediterranean energy efficiency strategy; hopes that the projects will, as a matter of priority, meet the needs of supplier countries and stresses the effects that the strengthening – particularly on the southern shore – of the network infrastructure, the gradual establishment of an interdependent regional market and the creation of a new industrial sector, such as that of solar components manufacturing, will have on the economic development of partner countries;

Il faut sauvegarder les emplois aux aciéries de Terni, tout comme il convient de protéger l’emploi sur d’autres sites italiens et européens, et, pour cela, je crois qu’il est nécessaire de réunir les gouvernements des États membres concernés, les partenaires sociaux et, dans le cas présent, Thyssen Krupp afin de rédiger un nouveau plan industriel pour relancer les secteurs du magnétique et de l’inox au niveau européen.
The jobs in the steelworks at Terni must be saved, as must the jobs in other Italian and European plants and for this reason I believe that a meeting is required between the governments of the Member States concerned, the social partners and, in this specific case, Thyssen Krupp, to draw up a new industrial plan to relaunch the magnetic and inox sectors at European level.
