When asked in Question No. 8 whether the government would be acting on the recommendation of the Canadian Human Rights Commission that social and economic rights be added as a field of human rights protection, the federal government stated that a comprehensive review of the Canadian Human Rights Act is scheduled to commence shortly. This is of great interest to honourable senators, because we seem to be quite a few miles ahead of the government on this particular front since we unanimously adopted Bill S-11, which proposes to put social condition on the list of prescribed grounds of discrimination in the Canadian Human Rights Act.
