Certains symptômes schizophréniques positifs ou négatifs doivent encore être présents, mais ne dominent plus le tableau clinique. Ce type d'état dépressif s'accompagne d'un risque accru de suicide. Si le patient ne présente plus aucun symptôme schizophrénique, on doit faire un diagnostic d'épisode dépressif (F32.-).
