Il est donc très surprenant que notre gouvernement continue à tenter de redéfinir quelque chose d'aussi fondamental que les termes «conjoint» et «famille», au mépris du droit international privé et des traditions qui sont reconnues dans le cas de l'adoption mais non pas dans celui de conjoint ce qui isole le Canada vis-à-vis des déclarations et des traités des Nations Unies qui appuient très fortement la famille; au mépris du droit commun britannique et canadien traditionnel ainsi que du droit européen et des conventions européennes qui reconnaissent l'importance fondamentale de la famille; au mépris des croyances et des valeurs de toutes les principales religions que pratiquent de nombreuses personnes qui viennent au Canada et qui constituent notre nation multiculturelle; et tout à fait au mépris de la loi constitutionnelle de 1987 et de la déclaration des droits qui inclut la protection de la famille—ce qui a été modifié par la Charte des droits, mais la déclaration des droits mentionnait expressément la famille.
So it's very surprising that our government would continue to try to redefine something so fundamental as spouse and family, disregarding private international law or traditions there, which were recognized in terms of adoption but not in terms of a spouse, isolating Canada regarding UN declarations and covenants, which strongly support the family; disregarding traditional English and Canadian common law, as well as European law and European conventions recognizing the basic importance of the family; disregarding the beliefs and the values of all major religions adhered to by many people who come to Canada and form our multicultural nation; and totally disregarding the Constitution Act of 1987 and the bill of rights, which included protection for the family—this was changed with the charter of rights, but the bill of rights specifically mentioned the family.
