One of the aspects to be investigated is whether the reduction of the maximum duration of exclusive contracts between oil companies and retailers from 10 to 5 years under the Commission's new block exemption regulation on vertical restraint will have a positive effect in opening the market. The national authorities were also invited to examine the question of false "agency contracts" by which some oil companies impose resale price maintenance on their resellers by incorrectly calling them agents.
