While measuring the impact and identifying what is additional to national climate pledges remains difficult, data indicates that the aggregated impact of the initiatives is in the order of a few gigatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO2e) in 2030 beyond the current intended nationally determined contributions – a potentially significant contribution to closing the gap (UNEP Gap Report 2016).
