The three discussion themes are closely interrelated: infrastructure development in the Mediterranean requires, inter alia, a high level of managerial capacity to run the infrastructure and to create the related services based on standards which are harmonized with those in Europe and the rest of the world and, more generally, it requires the creation of a technical and regulatory framework which will facilitate local and international investment flows and guarantee their profitability; the industrial associations and federations contribute to increase the competitiveness of local firms through professional training programmes and by proposing to their institutional partners technical and regulatory solutions aimed at increasing the efficiency of production and of the economy as a whole.
