In its judgement of 14 September 2000 in case C-238-98 (Hocsman), the Court ruled that Article 43 of the Treaty requires Member States to comply with certain principles in assessing requests for the recognition of qualifications originally obtained outside the EU but already recognised by another EU Member State. In particular, the Court indicated that Member States' authorities must take into consideration all the qualifications held by the applicant, as well as his or her relevant professional experience.
