3. 3. The organisers shall ensure that personal data collected for a given citizen’s initiative are not used for any purpose other than their indicated support for that initiative, and shall destroy all statements of support received for that initiative and any copies thereof at the latest one month after submitting that initiative to the Commission in accordance with Article 9 or 18 months after the date of registration of the proposed citizens’ initiative, whichever is the earlier.

Most of the changes brought to the Commission proposals usually consist of coming back to the initial wording of EEC Regulation 2081/92 in the case of the definition of GIs and its criteria (Article 2 paragraph 1b), of the right of objection (Article 7) where any Member State or a third country (new provision) has the right to object to the registration 6 months after the publication of this registration to the Official Journal (instead of 4 months initially), or amending the deadlines proposed for the implementation by Member States of the provisions (no later than one year after the entry into force of the Regulation instead of no initial deadline), for the scrutiny period during which the Commission examines the application for registering a product (12 months instead of no initial deadline).

Dans ce contexte il n'est pas important pour moi de savoir si cette nouvelle initiative communautaire porte le nom de LEADER III ou une autre dénomination. Ce qui est décisif pour moi n'est pas l'emballage mais le contenu. Et concernant le contenu, il y avait durant cette conférence beaucoup d'indications précieuses. Une nouvelle initiative communautaire devrait reprendre et poursuivre les éléments essentiels de LEADER I et LEADER II.
From my point of view it is unimportant what the new Community initiative is called; the packaging does not matter, it is the content which is important and this conference has given us many important pointers towards what that content should be. The new Community initiative should take up the central features of LEADER I and LEADER II and carry them on.
