B. whereas on 13 March 2015 Mohamed Nasheed, the first democratically elected president of the Maldives, was sentenced to 13 years in prison on politically motivated charges, and whereas this was condemned by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention; whereas his trial was marred by irregularities; whereas other former officials, including former vice-president Ahmed Adeeb and former defence ministers Mohamed Nazim and Tholhath Ibrahim, have also been arrested and imprisoned;

A. considérant qu'Ali Mohammed al-Nimr, âgé de 21 ans et neveu d'un célèbre opposant au régime, a été condamné à mort, semble-t-il par décapitation suivie d'une crucifixion, par la Cour suprême d'Arabie saoudite en mai 2015 pour des chefs d'accusation qui incluent la participation à des actes séditieux, à des émeutes, à des manifestations et à des vols, ainsi que l'appartenance à un groupement terroriste, et que l'intéressé était âgé de moins de 18 ans, et était donc mineur, au moment de son arrestation lors d'une manifestation en faveur de la démocratie et de l'égalité des droits en Arabie saoudite; qu'Ali Mohammed al‑Nimr a été condamné à mort en raison des manifestations dans la province à majorité chiite de l'est de l'Arabie saoudite; que des sources fiables attestent qu'il a été torturé et qu'il a signé ses aveux sous la contrainte; qu'il n'a reçu aucune garantie quant à la tenue d'un procès équitable et au déroulement de procédures judiciaires régulières en conformité avec le droit international;
A. whereas Ali Mohammed al-Nimr, who is 21 years old and is a nephew of a prominent dissident, was sentenced in May 2015 to capital punishment, reportedly by beheading followed by crucifixion, by Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court on criminal charges including sedition, rioting, protesting robbery and belonging to a terror cell whereas Ali al-Nimr was under the age of 18 – and thus still a juvenile – at the time he was arrested while demonstrating for democracy and equal rights in Saudi Arabia; whereas he was sentenced to death on account of the protests in the mostly Shia Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia; whereas it is alleged by reliable sources that Ali al-Nimr was tortured and forced to sign his confession; whereas he has been denied any guarantees of a safe trial and due legal process in compliance with international law;

4. se dit alarmé par le nombre d'exécutions en Arabie saoudite; exprime son extrême préoccupation et son horreur face à la condamnation à mort par décapitation suivie de crucifixion prononcée à l'encontre d'Ali Mohammed al-Nimr par les autorités saoudiennes à la suite d'un procès politique inéquitable; demande instamment aux autorités saoudiennes la libération immédiate d'Ali Mohammed al-Nimr, l'annulation de cette décision barbare et le respect des normes internationales en matière de droits de l'homme; demande donc instamment aux États membres d'accroître les pressions qu'ils exercent sur le régime saoudien afin qu'il gracie Ali Mohammed al-Nimr et qu'il abolisse la peine de mort;

Is alarmed by the number of executions in Saudi Arabia; expresses its extreme concern and abhorrence at the sentencing to death by beheading, followed by crucifixion, of Ali Mohammed al-Nimr by the Saudi authorities, following an unfair and politically motivated trial; urges the Saudi authorities to immediately release Ali Mohammed al-Nimr and quash this barbaric sentence and to comply with international human rights standards; urges the Member States, therefore, to step up their pressure on the Saudi regime to pardon Ali Mohammed al-Nimr and abolish the death penalty;

C. considérant que les personnalités publiques suivantes sont maintenues en détention au secret et auraient fait l'objet de tortures: Husnoo Alsnood (avocat et membre de la commission nationales des droits de l'homme), Fathimeen Nisreen, Mohammed Niyaz, Ahmed Ibrahim Didi, Mohamed Zaki, Ibrahim Zaki, Maria Manike, Jennifer Latheef, Aminath Najeeb, Mohammed Naseem et Asad Whaeed;
C. whereas the following public figures are being held in incommunicado detention and have reportedly been subjected to torture: Husnoo Alsnood (lawyer and member of the National Human Rights Commission), Fathimeen Nisreen, Mohammed Niyaz, Ahmed Ibrahim Didi, Mohamed Zaki, Ibrahim Zaki, Maria Manike, Jennifer Latheef, Aminath Najeeb, Mohammed Naseem and Asad Whaeed,
