Je dois dire que la raison, ou le juste compromis, si vous préférez, sous-tendant notre décision d’adopter rapidement la proposition telle qu’elle est présentée devant ce Parlement, est en fait que nous voulions être sûrs que la Commission respectera sa promesse de revenir sur ce sujet d’une façon plus réfléchie et plus approfondie, de régler une fois pour toutes un problème crucial non seulement pour sortir de la crise actuelle, mais aussi pour faire aboutir le processus de restructuration et de libéralisation du marché aérien mondial et pour créer un meilleur marché aérien en Europe.
I have to say that the reason, or worthy compromise, if you will, that lies behind our swift adoption of the proposal in the forms to be presented here is in fact in this, it is in being sure that the Commission will honour its commitment to return to this subject in a more thought-out, in-depth way, to tackle once and for all what is a crucial issue not only for overcoming the current crisis, but also for completing the process of restructuring and liberalising the global air market, and for building a better air market within Europe.

1. The Parties commit to the shared goal of continuing to remove market access barriers in order to maximise benefits for consumers, airlines, labour, and communities on both sides of the Atlantic, including enhancing the access of their airlines to global capital markets, so as better to reflect the realities of a global aviation industry, the strengthening of the transatlantic air transportation system, and the establishment of a framework that will encourage other countries to open up their own air services markets.
