Eu égard à l'importance du rôle que le contrôleur est appelé à jouer dans le système de protection du droit fondamental des citoyens européens inscrit à l'article 8 de la Charte, il importe d'adopter dans les plus brefs délais les dispositions permettant son entrée en fonction, d'autant plus que la date fixée par le traité d'Amsterdam est maintenant échue depuis un certain temps.
In view of the importance of the role to be played by the Supervisor in the system of protection of the fundamental rights of European citizens under Article 8 of the Charter, it is clear that he should be enabled to take up his duties as rapidly as possible, especially as the time-limit laid down in the Treaty of Amsterdam elapsed some time ago.
