- (NL) Monsieur le Président, je voudrais tout d’abord dire que je suis déçu de ne pas voir de représentants du Conseil parce que celui-ci aura évidemment un grand rôle à jouer dans ce chapitre et que ce sont les membres du Conseil qui voteront lors de la session de l’OACI. J’espère donc, Madame la Commissaire, que vous rapporterez aux représentants du Conseil ce qui aura été dit ici parce que c’est aussi sur eux que nous compterons, car nous savons que nous ne pouvons nous reposer sur la Commission.
– (NL) Mr President, first of all, I should like to say that I am disappointed not to see any Council representatives, for naturally, the Council will also have an important input in this chapter, and it will be the members of the Council who will be voting at the ICAO Meeting. I therefore hope, Commissioner, that you will report to the Council representatives on what has been discussed here in this House, because it is, of course, also on them that we will be leaning, for we know that we cannot lean on the Commission.

C'est donc un nouvel arrangement provisoire que la Commission espère voir remplacé en temps voulu par des normes internationales convenues au niveau de l'Organisation de l'aviation civile internationale (OACI).
It is thus a further interim arrangement which the Commission hopes will be replaced in due course by international standards agreed in the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

- (ES) Monsieur le Président, je n'insisterai pas sur les précédents qui ont donné lieu à cette discussion qui demain, je l'espère, débouchera sur un résultat positif, parce que nous savons tous ce qui s'est produit après le refus de toute une série d'États membres de l'OACI et souhaitons aller de l'avant dans la lutte contre le bruit dans les aéroports.
– (ES) Mr President, I am not going to insist on identifying the precedents which have led us to today’s discussion, which I hope will lead to a positive result tomorrow, because we all know what has happened following the negative attitude of a series of Member States of the ICAO and we all want to make progress in the fight against noise at airports.

Il est à espérer qu'à l'initiative de l'Union européenne, l'OACI se chargera de faire adopter les recommandations qui lui ont été adressées en vue de renforcer les normes internationales de sécurité applicables aux aéroports et au transport aérien.
We hope that, at the European Union’s initiative, the ICAO will take on the responsibility of ensuring the adoption of the recommendations that it received with a view to strengthening international safety standards that apply to airports and air transport.

Quoi qu'il en soit, je m'engage une fois de plus, avec les services de la Commission, à maintenir un dialogue ouvert pendant tous ces mois avec vous, Mesdames et Messieurs, et j'espère que nous parviendrons à un accord dans le cadre de l'OACI qui nous permettra de garantir la solution à ce problème des aéroports et des avions les plus bruyants et, par la même occasion, d'éviter une confrontation avec les États-Unis, qui ne profiterait à personne.
In any event, I once again commit myself and the Commission services to maintaining an open dialogue throughout these months with this House and I hope that we will finally reach an agreement within the ICAO which will ensure that we resolve this issue of airports and the noisiest aircraft and, at the same time, avoid any type of confrontation with the United States, which would benefit no-one.

Enfin et je termine, Monsieur le Président, je voudrais tous vous remercier pour vos interventions et votre soutien, en espérant qu'une délégation de ce Parlement pourra participer à l'OACI, nous entourer et nous accompagner.
