(Return tabled) Question No. 456 Ms. Kirsty Duncan: With respect to the current pandemic of new influenza A (H1N1): (a) what specific healthcare professional stakeholder groups have been consulted since the beginning of the H1N1 pandemic, what was the consultation process, and what concerns were raised; (b) what concerns from the consultation process have been addressed, what concerns are remaining, and by what date will they be addressed; (c) what, if any, additional funding was requested to address identified challenges; (d) do identified stakeholder groups report there are sufficient human resources and supplies to meet the need during a second wave of H1N1 and, if not, what are the identified gaps; (e) what, if any, additional education and training was requested by stakeholder groups; (f) what procedures are in place to ensure applicability, consistency and clarity of protocols to healthcare professional organizations, and do stakeholders report that they are receiving clear, concise, timely messaging; (g) what, if any, differences exist in how healthcare professionals will be protected among provinces and territories; (h) what specific agreements have been made in respect to assuring sufficient human resources during a second wave; (i) what, if any, differences exist between the national guidelines and those of the provinces and territories, with respect to antivirals, N-95 masks, vaccines, and other personal protective measures, and how should healthcare professionals address any discrepancies; (j) what are the known and suspected benefits and risks of the H1N1 vaccine; (k) what non-clinical and clinical trials have been or are being undertaken regarding the H1N1 vaccine, on what dates were they completed, and what are the outcomes of these trials; (l) what possible side effects, including rare events, might be expected with the H1N1 vaccine; (m) what are the possible legal risks associated with an H1N1 vaccination programme, and what efforts have ...

En tant que porte-parole pour la Francophonie, je me demande comment les organisateurs de l'événement, dont le ministre du Patrimoine canadien et des Langues officielles, vont justifier toutes ces lacunes dans l'organisation devant les milliers d'athlètes francophones. Car ces athlètes, en visite dans un pays membre de la francophonie et ayant une des langues officielles le français, ne pourront pas se faire répondre en français dans la majorité des sites, ne verront pas leurs biographies présentées en français pour les médias et n'auront pas accès aux services de traduction, d'affichage et de signalisation auxquels ils sont en droit de s'attendre.
As the critic for la Francophonie, I wonder how the event's organizers, including the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, are going to justify all these organizational shortcomings to the thousands of French-speaking athletes who will be visiting a member of the francophonie and a country with French as one of its official languages, yet who will not be able to get an answer in French at most sites, will not see their biographies presented in French for the media and will not have access to the translation and signage services they have a right to expect.

Je nourris beaucoup d'inquiétudes et me demande si les réflexions de la Commission sur la manière dont il faut gouverner l'Europe et la planification concrète prévue par ce Parlement pour faire face à la problématique des langues pourront répondre réellement à ces défis pour garantir les identités nationales européennes et la capacité d'action des institutions européennes dans l'intérêt des citoyens d'une Union européenne agrandie.
I have grave concerns about whether the Commission's reflections on how Europe is to be governed or the practical plans in this House to overcome the languages problem really do take sufficient account of the requirements which will need to be met if we really are to safeguard European national identities and preserve the ability of the European institutions to act in the interests of the citizens of a larger European Union.

Cette barrière étant levée, nous avons beaucoup d'espoir de pouvoir offrir ce genre de programme double non seulement en Ontario, mais partout au Canada, où les immigrants pourront apprendre les deux langues si telle est l'exigence à laquelle ils doivent répondre pour obtenir un emploi satisfaisant.
If this barrier is removed, we are very hopeful about being able to offer this dual program not only in Ontario, but across Canada, where immigrants will be able to learn both languages if that is the requirement they need to meet in order to get a rewarding job.
