Répondant aux interrogations des autorités de Lettonie et de Lituanie - qui font partie des 13 États membres qui ont déjà ratifié le Traité- sur les intentions des pays où le référendum s'est soldé par un vote négatif, Peter Straub a indiqué qu'il espérait, lui aussi, que la période de réflexion, décidée par le Conseil européen en juin dernier, apportera une réponse au niveau de l'Union.
In reply to questions from the Latvian and Lithuanian authorities – two of the 13 Member States which have already ratified the Treaty – about the intentions of those countries where referendums had produced a no vote, Peter Straub stated that he also hoped that the period of reflection announced by the European Council last June would elicit a response at EU level.
