Repeatedly they claimed that, in effect, for a cabinet minister, ignorance is bliss and that it was not proper for a minister to have knowledge of any police investigation, even if the police is the RCMP which reports to the Solicitor General; even if a spiteful, malicious and libellous letter was sent on Department of Justice letterhead; and even if one of the three innocent Canadians falsely accused of engaging in criminal activity once held the highest office in the land.
