(14a) The precautionary principle, as laid down in Article 191(2) TFEU and outlined inter alia in the Commission Communication of 2 February 2000 on the precautionary principle, is a fundamental principle for the safety of products and for the safety of consumers and should be taken into due account when laying down the criteria for assessing the safety of cableway installations and their infrastructure, subsystems and safety components.

On motion of Beth Phinney, it was agreed, - That the evidence heard by members of the Sub-Committee on February 23, 2000, from Jean-Pierre Boisclair, President of the Canadian Comprehensive Auditing Foundation, and Tim Plumptre, Director of the Institute on Governance, be deemed to have been received by the Sub-Committee and that it be published as meeting no. 2. The Sub-Committee proceeded to discuss the proposed travel to Washington D.C. in May of 2000.
