Je voudrais le remercier et le féliciter, comme l’ensemble des coordinateurs et des rapporteurs fictifs, et naturellement – Didier Reynders vient de s’exprimer – la Présidence belge et toute son équipe, pour le travail très important, très tenace qui a été accompli tout au long de ces dernières semaines, avant lui, par les autres Présidences.
I would like to thank and congratulate him, as well as all the coordinators and shadow rapporteurs, and of course, as Mr Reynders has just said, the Belgian Presidency and the whole team, for the very important and very tenacious work that has been accomplished over these last few weeks, and before it, by the other Presidencies.

- (PT) Monsieur le Président, je voudrais remercier et féliciter M. Didier Rod pour l’excellent travail auquel il s’est livré dans ce domaine et souligner que je partage, pour l’essentiel, les considérations de son exposé des motifs et les conclusions qu’il nous a proposées et que nous avons votées au sein de la commission du développement et de la coopération.
– (PT) Mr President, I should like to thank Mr Rod and congratulate him on his excellent work on this matter and stress that, broadly speaking, I agree with the ideas he puts forward in his explanatory statement and with the conclusions he proposed and which we approved in the Committee on Development and Cooperation.

1. se félicite des efforts accomplis par l'Union africaine et appuie les efforts du Président du Sénégal, Abdoulaye Wade, en vue d'empêcher la partition de Madagascar et demande tant à Didier Ratsiraka qu'à Marc Ravalomanana de mettre au premier plan les intérêts des 16 millions d'habitants de Madagascar en retournant à la table de négociations;

Welcomes the efforts by the African Union and supports Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade's efforts to prevent Madagascar dividing into two, and calls on both Didier Ratsiraka and Marc Ravalomanana to put the interests of Madagascar's 16 million people first by returning to the negotiating table;
