Arafat, a nommé les membres d'une commission de négociation chargée de résoudre le problème; les autorités israéliennes n'ont à ce jour donné aucune réponse.
The Franciscan friars of Bethlehem report that they have sought the opening of negotiations between the parties with a view to ending the blockade of the Basilica and authorising an internationally guaranteed convoy so that the Palestinian fighters barricaded in the complex can be transferred to Gaza; the Palestinian president, Mr Arafat, has appointed the members of a negotiating committee with the task of resolving the problem; so far the Israeli authorities have not responded.
