Sans être exhaustif, on retiendra que : - dans le domaine de l'énergie nucléaire, la Communauté collabore avec le JAERI (Japan Atomic Energy Research Institution) sur les "Nuclear Materials Saveguards" (garanties relatives aux matières nucléaires) et avec la "Radiation Research Foundation" sur la radioprotection; - dans le domaine énergie/environnement, la Communauté participe avec l'AIST et le NEDO (organismes dépendant du MITI) à des workshops conjoints sur la minimalisation des effets du CO2 et sur la catalyse avancée pour la combustion; elle participe avec l'Agence pour l'Environnement à des échanges sur les gaz à effets de serre CH2 et N2O; dans le cadre de la coordination des recherches mondiales sur les changements climatiques globaux, des contatcs réguliers existent entre la Commission et le Japon; - la Commission soutient avec le MITI un projet intitulé "Company of the future" qui consiste, pour un certain nombre de centres de recherche européens et japonais, à coopérer sur le thème des méthodes de gestion de la RD dans les entreprises du secteur des Technologies de l'Information; - les différents Instituts du Centre Commun de Recherche de la Communauté (CCR) participent à différentes activités de recherche (autres que celles mentionnées ci-dessus) avec leurs homogues japonais.
A by no means exhaustive list would include : - on nuclear energy, the Community is collaborating with the Japanese Atomic Energy Research Institution (JAERI) on nuclear materials safeguards and with the Radiation Research Foundation on radiation protection; - on energy and the environment, the Community is participating in joint workshops with the AIST and the NEDO (bodies under MITI) on measures to minimize the impact of CO2 and on advanced catalysis processes for combustion and is conducting exchanges with the Environment Agency on CH2 and N2O, two greenhouse gases; also the Commission and Japan are in regular contact to coordinate international research on global climate change; - together with the MITI, the Commission is providing support for the "Company of the Future" project in which European and Japanese research centres are cooperating on methods of managing RD in information technology companies; - the different Institutes of the Community's Joint Research Centre (JRC) have joined their Japanese counterparts in a variety of research activities in addition to those mentioned above.
