The mid-term review of the Structural Funds will provide an opportunity for strengthening the links between the four pillars of the Strategy and the activities supported by the ESF.

Je suis convaincu qu’en profitant de l’assistance des Fonds structurels, ce document donnera à chaque région de l’Union européenne l’occasion d’investir dans les infrastructures sociales, garantissant ainsi l’accès au logement. À son tour, cela permettra non seulement de réduire l’isolement social, mais cela contribuera aussi à la création d’une politique sociale, économique et de protection environnementale stable dans toute la Communauté.
I am convinced that, by taking advantage of assistance from the Structural Funds, this document will give every region of the European Union the opportunity to invest in social infrastructure, ensuring access to housing, and this, in turn, will not only help reduce social isolation, but will contribute to the creation of a stable social, economic and environmental protection policy in the whole Community.

Notre priorité doit être de renforcer et d’améliorer la gestion des politiques actuelles, notamment des politiques relatives aux fonds structurels, qui ont également été retardées à cause d’un manque de fonds, ainsi, évidemment, que de promouvoir l’investissement dans la croissance verte, qui donnera une autre dimension de développement aux politiques communautaires actuelles.
Our priority must be the deepening and improved management of current policies, such as Structural Fund policies, which have been also delayed due to a lack of funds, and obviously the promotion of investments in green growth, which will give current Community policies another development dimension.

Je considère également comme acquis que la Commission donnera très rapidement une réponse positive à l'utilisation des fonds structurels pour l'octroi de compensations. Cette proposition va en effet tout à fait dans le sens de la proposition de la Commission elle-même visant à agir de façon responsable afin de garantir et de préserver les stocks de poissons également dans le futur.
I also assume that the Commission will, as soon as possible, respond positively to the possibility of using the structural funds for compensation, for that is completely in line with the Commission’s own proposal about the possibility of acting responsibly to safeguard and preserve fish stocks in the future too.

Michel BARNIER, European Commissioner responsible for regional policy, declared : " INTERREG IIIC will offer the opportunity for regions to introduce a strategic approach to interregional co-operation through the new concept of the regional framework operation, to discover how others have benefited from the Structural Funds, to share one's own experience of project implementation, and, perhaps most importantly, to bring different cultures from all over the continent together in order to work together on issues that have a significant impact on the European citizen".
