La charte communautaire des droits sociaux fondamentaux des travailleurs, adoptée le 9 décembre 1989, indique en son point 7 que la réalisation du marché intérieur doit conduire à une amélioration des conditions de vie et de travail des travailleurs dans la Communauté et que cette amélioration doit entraîner, là où cela est nécessaire, le développement de certains aspects de la réglementation du travail, tels que les procédures de licenciement collectif ou celles concernant les faillites.
The Community Charter of Fundamental Social Rights for Workers adopted on 9 December 1989 states, in point 7, that the completion of the internal market must lead to an improvement in the living and working conditions of workers in the Community and that this improvement must cover, where necessary, the development of certain aspects of employment regulations such as procedures for collective redundancies and those regarding bankruptcies.
