L'évêque de la Nouvelle-Écosse a évidemment cité bon nombre de textes bibliques et a déclaré que si on permettait à un homme de se marier avec la soeur de sa femme décédée, cela mènerait à la polygamie, puisqu'il voudrait éventuellement se marier avec toutes ses soeurs (1540) Voilà ce qu'on disait en 1882, et, 200 ans plus tard, les mêmes arguments reviennent et nous entendons les mêmes rengaines.
