In the light of the Council’s longstanding position on this matter, it is certainly true that the threat contained in the statements mentioned by the honourable Member does nothing to promote the search for and definition of a solution. The threat refers to annexing of the northern part of Cyprus if accession took place whilst the island was still divided.
