Madame la Présidente, il me semble essentiel que l’Union européenne, une fois qu’elle aura achevé son processus de réforme (par le biais du traité de Lisbonne) et d’élargissement, trouve, ou plutôt reprenne, sa place dans un environnement fondamentalement géographique, en tenant compte du fait que, d’ici 2050, la Chine et l’Inde représenteront 50 % du produit intérieur brut mondial, comme c’était déjà le cas au début du 19 siècle.
Madam President, I feel it is very important, once the reform (through the Lisbon Treaty) and enlargement processes have been completed, for the European Union to adopt or rather resume a basically geographical status, taking into account that, between now and the year 2050, China and India will absorb 50% of the world’s gross domestic product, as previously happened in around 1800.
