- Monsieur le Président, ce sont évidemment les peuples de la République du Congo qui ont le plus à souffrir des conflits entre bandes armées qui déchirent leur pays, mais il est aussi dérisoire que mensonger de présenter ces conflits comme si la seule responsabilité en cause était celle des parties congolaises adverses et de leurs protecteurs des États africains voisins et comme si un appel de l'Europe à la réconciliation nationale et à la démocratisation pouvait les résoudre.
– (FR) Mr President, obviously the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo are those who suffer most in the conflicts between armed gangs which are tearing the country apart, but it is both pathetic and misleading to present these conflicts as if the only people to bear any responsibility were the opposing Congolese factions and their protectors in neighbouring African states and as if Europe’s calling for national reconciliation and democratisation could resolve the situation.
