It is clear, however, that we cannot ignore the importance of free trade, which is something that the Central American and Andean countries are asking for, and in that regard, my only recommendation, Mr President, is that this ambitious timetable that the Commissioner has told us about, given that the Commission has approved the negotiation guidelines and Parliament is going to approve them tomorrow as well, can be given substance as soon as possible, because we have already waited too long for the Andean and Central American Communities to have association agreements, like those with Mexico and Chile, which have produced excellent results, by the way.

8. 8. To reaffirm the conviction that the European Union is not proposing only to negotiate a treaty similar to the CAFTA, it is essential to base the future association agreement on the common interest resulting from a political and economic association with the region and its separate countries, taking account of the existing asymmetry and inequalities between the two regions and amongst and within the various Central American countries, and it should also include key provisions on development cooperation.

(Return tabled) Question No. 48 Mr. Peter Julian: With regards to spending and allocation by all government departments and agencies for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games an all activities relating to it: (a) what is the exact amount of money that has and will be spent or allocated for the purposes of security for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, including specifically, but not limited to, money allocated for the RCMP, local police forces, the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit, private security firms and block transfers to the Province of British Columbia for similar purposes; (b) what was the exact amount of money spent by the RCMP on its contract with Cruise Connections Charter Management of North Carolina, dated June 20, 2008; (c) what is the full and exact amount of travel expenses claimed, including specifically, but not limited to, airfare and accommodation, broken down by individual and each specific claim, of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, to date; (d) how many total RCMP and private security personnel will be detached to provide security services for the Games; (e) how many total Canadian Forces (CF) personnel will be employed to provide security services for the Games; (f) how many of these CF personnel are reservists; (g) how many of these CF personnel are regular forces personnel; and (h) what are the total anticipated salary costs of all CF personnel who are currently or will be tasked with providing security or logistical services for the 2010 Games?

4) Au chapitre commercial, l'accord marque le franchissement d'une étape importante sur la voie d'une intégration plus globale des deux régions, intégration qui serait le fruit de la conjonction, dans un premier temps, d'un réseau de nouveaux accords d'association semblables à celui dont il est question ici, accords qui ouvriraient la voie à une association interrégionale globale propre à garantir un soutien institutionnel et une ouverture géographique exhaustive à l'association stratégique birégionale entre l'Union et l'Amérique latine, l'objectif ultime étant une libéralisation bilatérale et préférentielle progressive et réciproque des échanges de tous biens et services entre les deux régions, conformément aux directives de l'OMC.
4. With regard to trade, the new agreement with Chile represents a very important step towards fuller integration between the two regions, produced initially by the cumulative effect of a network of new association agreements similar to the current agreement, paving the way for a global interregional partnership that will provide institutional back-up and full geographical cover for the strategic bi-regional partnership between the European Union and Latin America, with the ultimate aim of achieving gradual and mutual bilateral and preferential liberalisation of trade in all kinds of goods and services between the two regions, in line with WTO rules.
