La nouvelle du décès de l'ancien chancelier allemand Helmut Kohl, qui était également mon ami proche, m'a profondément bouleversé.
I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing away of Helmut Kohl, the former federal German Chancellor.

5. Aucun droit à pension de survie n'est ouvert à la personne qui a épousé un ancien titulaire d'une charge publique ayant acquis, au moment du mariage, des droits à pension au titre du présent règlement, ni aux enfants issus de cette union, sauf si le décès de l'ancien titulaire d'une charge publique survient après cinq ans de mariage ou plus.
5. Where a former public office holder marries and at the date of marriage has accrued pension rights under this Regulation, the spouse and any children of the marriage shall not be entitled to a survivor's pension save where the marriage precedes the death of the former public office holder by 5 years or more.

En cas de décès d'un ancien agent contractuel titulaire d'une allocation d'invalidité, ainsi qu'en cas de décès d'un ancien agent contractuel titulaire d'une pension d'ancienneté ou ayant cessé ses fonctions avant l'âge de la retraite et ayant demandé que la jouissance de sa pension d'ancienneté soit différée au premier jour du mois civil suivant celui au cours duquel il atteint l'âge de la retraite, les ayants droit de l'ancien agent contractuel décédé, tels qu'ils sont définis au chapitre 4 de l'annexe VIII du statut, bénéficient d'une pension de survie dans les conditions prévues à cette annexe".
In the event of the death of a former contract staff member in receipt of an invalidity allowance or a former contract staff member who is in receipt of a retirement pension or who leaves the service before reaching pensionable age and requests that his retirement pension be deferred until the first day of the calendar month following that in which he reached the pensionable age, the persons entitled under the deceased former contract staff member, as defined in Chapter 4 of Annex VIII to the Staff Regulations, shall be entitled to a survivor's pension as provided for in that Annex'.

Where a former servant in receipt of an invalidity allowance or a former servant within the meaning of Article 2 (a), (c), (d), (e) or (f) who was in receipt of a retirement pension or who left the service before reaching pensionable age and requested that his retirement pension be deferred until the first day of the calendar month following that during which he reached pensionable age dies, the persons entitled under the deceased servant, as defined in Chapter 4 of Annex VIII to the Staff Regulations, shall be entitled to the survivor's pension as provided for in that Annex.

Where a former member of the High Authority marries and at the date of marriage has pension rights accruing to him under this Regulation, the wife and any children of that marriage shall not be entitled to a survivor's pension save where the marriage precedes the death of the former member of the High Authority by five years.
