Demands that the Greek government abolish the penal provisions as described in Article 43b of the Greek Law Decree No 2623/1953/A-268, which impose a sentence of two to twelve months" imprisonment on women who violate the ban on women entering Mount Athos; reiterates its request that the ban on women entering Mount Athos should be lifted and notes that such a ban is a violation of the principle of and the international conventions on gender equality and non-discrimination on the basis of gender and the provisions relating to free movement of persons provided by the Greek Constitution and Community law;

Alors que tous les propriétaires de navires devaient s’être conformés à cette obligation avant le 31 décembre 2005, le gouvernement grec a, en présentant le document n° 1576/31.7.2006, ensuite tenté de faire passer le projet de décret présidentiel sur «la modification du décret présidentiel 374/2002 (Journal officiel de la République hellénique 321 A’) relatif à "la conformité des navires aux exigences spécifiées au paragraphe 2 du décret présidentiel 400/1996 (Journal officiel de la République hellénique 268 A’)"« au Conseil d’État. Or, celui-ci a considéré la proposition d’obtenir la prolongation supplémentaire de deux ans figurant dans ce projet de décret présidentiel comme non conforme à la loi, révélant ainsi que le gouvernement couvrait les compagnies maritimes coupables de polluer le milieu marin et occultait les dangers qu’elles représentent pour la santé publique.
While all shipowners should have complied with this requirement by 31 December 2005, the Greek Government, in Document 1576 of 31 July 2006, put forward a draft presidential decree amending Presidential Decree 374/2002 (Official Gazette 321 A') regarding 'compliance by vessels with the provisions of paragraph 2 of Presidential Decree 400/1996 (Official Gazette 268 A')' and submitted the proposal to the Council of State, which ruled that the proposal regarding a two-year extension of the deadline contained in the draft presidential decree 'had not been tabled through the proper legal channels', revealing that the Greek Government was covering up for shipping companies polluting the marine environment and concealing the dangers to public health.

Par le décret présidentiel 124 (Journal officiel de la République hellénique 136/6.7.2006) sur la libre prestation de services dans le domaine des transports maritimes, le gouvernement grec a procédé arbitrairement à la suppression de la limite d’âge fixée à 30 ans pour le retrait des navires vétustes grecs (loi 2932/2001), sous prétexte d’harmoniser la législation grecque avec la législation européenne, sur proposition de la Commission.
With Presidential Decree 124 (Greek Government Gazette 136 of 6 July 2006) concerning freedom to provide services in marine transport, the Greek Government has arbitrarily abolished the 30-year age-limit for withdrawing Greek ships from service (Law 2932/2001), claiming that it is bringing Greek law into line with European legislation, on a proposal from the Commission.
